It's a thought. By the time you read this, either 'that bloke that won X-Factor' or Rage Against The Machine will be lying on the floor, bruised, bloodied and humiliated. I wonder if so many families have been huddled tensely round a wireless since WWII. If you're really lucky, whatever radio station you had on to catch the charts will have played the wrong version of 'Killing In The Name Of' while you listened with gran. What did he say, dear?
In the wake of such a momentous occasion, it's quite understandable that record companies are a little quiet. Still, as ever, The Music Fix is here to tell you if there are any delights amongst the week's releases. Well?
Mono Taxi - 'Love Shows No Mercy To Fools'
So-so indie-pop from Anglo-French duo. Likely to be forgotten before 2010 kicks in. And, remember, at time of writing, 2010 is only twelve days away. (JD)
The CB's - 'Misdemeanour'
"Cover of Foster Sylver's 1973 classic". If this means nowt to you, it's suffice to say this has a similar sound to The Jackson 5's 'ABC'. (JD)
Melleefresh Vs Cybersutra - 'White, Trashy & Blonde'
Electro-house with some faintly rude vocals. She said "tits"! Nothing that hasn't been done better before, and, like a stripper who's over-embellished herself with plastic surgery, boring rather than sexy. (JD)
Cascada - 'Fever'
Not exactly a classic of the Eurobeat genre, but obviously still a million times better than 99.9% of the Arctic Monkeys' back catalogue. Plus, let's face it, this is really the stuff we dance "round the house in our pants to" anyway, isn't it?...oh, just me then. (MJ)
Bitterside - 'Start Again'
If 'Start Again' achieves anything, it would be that it marks a musical experience you never thought you'd encounter: an indie band from Malta. On a more serious note, it's actually not a bad effort and nowhere near as cheesy as one might assume. Clearly aimed at being an arena-friendly, uplifting sing along and while Bitterside probably won't reach those heights on these shores, it's still an enjoyable three-minute listen. (IS)
Single of the Week
Radioclit - 'Secousse All Stars'
African vocals and energetic rhythms barely diluted with electro. It's an interesting and unpredictable soundclash that will quite literally keep open-minded dance fans on their toes. (JD)
