Cherri V - 'Til The Sun Comes Up
Production resembles Amerie's 1 Thing, while bits of it seem sung to the tune of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Unsurprisingly, this isn't as good as either.

Dan Black - Symphonies
Imagine Jamie T doing his stuff to the beat of Rhianna's Umbrella. One of this week's better offerings.

Benjamin Tayor - Wicked Way
You mean this isn't Paolo Nutini?

Smoke Fairies - Frozen Heart EP
British duo, Jessica Davies and Katherine Blamire, blend acoustic blues and folk. If unlikely to stick in your head, this is at least evocative.

The Blizzards - Buy It Sell It
A little like an upbeat Snow Patrol - and even that's being kind. Sell it? If Woolies' bargain bin still existed, I doubt this would fetch more than 10p a copy.

The Virgins - One Week Of Danger
Indie landfill from across the pond.

The Yeah You's - 15 Minutes
"I'm listening to the same old crap that I've heard before." With that, The Yeah You's deliver perhaps the most relevant lyric of the week. Not to be confused with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but I suppose there's little chance when you sound only marginally more edgy than McFly.

Loren - Loren EP
Stripped back house music. One for the club rather than home-listening.

Lisa Mitchell - Neopolitan Dreams
This sweet-voiced Australian gal reminds me of Emiliana Torrini, which is no bad thing.

Chipmunk - Diamond Rings
From the hype, you'd think he's the new Dizzee, but there's nothing to go bonkers over here. Plus he has a really silly name.

Beverley Knight - Every Step
Soulful r'n'b of the classy but dull variety.

Crystal Fighters - Xtatic Truth
A bit indie, a bit dance, a bit try-too-hard. No doubt some 18 year old kid will think this the coolest song ever recorded. They're wrong.

Girls - Hellhole Ratrace
"One of the most talked about new bands in the US after one independent 7" single." So says the press release. Still, with the shake of a tambourine, jangly guitar and a touch of feedback, this lightly frazzled epic reminds me vaguely of The Jesus and Mary Chain in mellow mode and that's enough to earn it the title of Single of the Week.
