With rave reviews from Scottish press and radio, a UK tour supporting Sharleen Spiteri, and an impending US trip with an appearance at US RockStock Festival in September, KIZZY STAR are definitely a band to look out for!
KIZZY STAR are Tony McGovern on vocals / guitar, Martin MacLeod on guitar, Lee Worrall on bass and Mick Wiseman on drums. The guys have been holed up in a Glasgow studio for much of the last two years writing and recording an impressive body of work.
The band’s recent national tour supporting Sharleen Spiteri included venues such as Glasgow’s O2 Academy and the Hammersmith Apollo in London. Despite only playing a handful of dates prior to the tour, KIZZY STAR had already achieved a number of landmarks; securing a headline slot at King Tuts, Glasgow and performing on the Main stage at Live at Loch Lomond. The band were selected by Jim Gellatly as one of XFM’s Top 10 for 2008 and were featured on US compilation Power Pop Overthrow. Limited edition debut single Out Of Control picked up airplay on numerous national stations including BBC Scotland and Clyde 1.
With a series of festival type anthems, think Echo and the Bunnymen, Editors, Steve Marriott and Joy Division, and you really only get half the idea. What really stands out is the unique songwriting & vocal talent of Tony McGovern, a legend with the band’s label Flowers In The Dustbin due to his stint in classic lost Glasgow band The Smiles.
2009 sees KIZZY STAR begin to unleash a series of incendiary anthems. The new single 'The Last Time' will be available on Monday 19th October as a download on Flowers In The Dustbin, Scotland’s vibrant new indie label.
