| Passion Pit will release 'The Reeling' on May 11th, debut album Manners is set to hit our shores a week later. The Chunk Of Change E.P. was special enough to leave everyone chomping at the bit for a full album from the band, but have Passion Pit delivered on the hype? On the strength of 'The Reeling', I have to say that the jury is still out, but what do you think? Watch the video for 'The Reeling' here and let us know.

It'll be a invigorating sitdown with the intellectual journalistic juggernauts of the rock'n'roll elite....A few Sherrys, a plethora of bon mots about the merits of the latest indie darlings and the daftness of the latest Gallagher haircuts, topped off with some unprintable vulgarity involving Sarah Harding". This was the idea. Pfft!! Have you ever tried herding Cats? I now know how Ginsberg felt when he wrote "I've seen the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness". Write on comrades!
The Airborne Toxic Event - The Airborne Toxic Event (Album) The LA quintet's debut is an abrasive and compelling coupling of Mikel Jollet's crazed confessionals and a shattering blend of indie guitar pop, psycho-folk and semi-stadium epics like the monumental Innocence and recent single Sometime After Midnight. (GK) Au Revoir Simone - Shadows (Album Track) "Look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again...Go forth to meet the shadowy future, without fear." (MJ) The Boo Radleys - I Hang Suspended (Single) Before they released rubbish like Wake Up Boo, they produced perfect indie-genius like this. (CF) The Brakes - Two Shocks (Album Track) One of the tracks of the year? Quite possibly. (CF) Breaking Bad (US TV Drama) Walt: Now…who messes with the blowfish, Jesse? Jesse: Nobody. Walt: You’re damn right. Jesse: I'm a blowfish! (MJ) The Cardigans- Rise and Shine (Single) The sound of summer. Summer 1995, admittedly, but who cares? You take what you can get. (GK) Coconut Records - Davy (Album) Indie poster boy actor Jason Schwartzman provides the soundtrack to the summer with a shamelessly retro, Beatles-esque collection of ditties. (LM) Desire - Dans Mes Reves (5 Track Promo) "I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later." (MJ) Doom - Rap Ambush (Album Track) Spine shattering Hip Hop from the underground's best kept secret. (CF) Geoffrey Oicott- Darts Player's Wives (Album Track) More for the concept than the music really. A band of cockney Oi boys who dress as cricket players and sing about darts and suchlike. Either post-modern genius or disturbingly scary, either way it is great. (SB) Maia Hirasawa - The Wrong Way (Album Track) Uplifting track from the Swedish singers sophomore album, complete with Showaddywaddy style saxophone! (LT) The Horrors - Sea Within A Sea (Album Track) "It was the Law of the Sea, they said. Civilization ends at the waterline. Beyond that, we all enter the food chain, and not always right at the top." (MJ) King Tubby- Declaration of Dub (Album) Re-discovered this somewhere towards the back of my CD collection. King Tubby: not just a dub pioneer and bass-fiend, but probably the originator of the remix and thus a huge influence on most modern dance music. Now where's that jazz cigarette? (JD) Liquid Vega - 100 Degrees (Single) "The new generation takes few risks; it graduates, looks for a job, endures. And once a week, on Saturday night, it explodes..." (MJ) Lucky Soul - Whoa Billy! (Single) Return single from the South London female fronted slightly 60's inspired Pop Maestros. (LT) Madness - The Liberty of Norton Folgate (Album Track) A 10 minute epic taking the listener on a tour of unseen London Town. An astonishing, unexpected renaissance of the erstwhile nutty boys who haven't lost their knack for crafting a pop gem. (SB) Manic Street Preachers - Jackie Collins Existential Question Time (Album Track) I must admit that I lost my faith in the Manics quite some time ago, but this has stirred something in my soul. Is this their swansong or a new dawn? (SB) Maximo Park- Quicken the Heart (Forthcoming Album) Awesome. You forget how good they are. Bursting with ideas, and streets ahead of their peers. Should make them massive. (GK) Kris Menace- Jupiter (Album Track) The standout on Idiosyncrasies, this builds perfectly in a gorgeous mix of claps and blissed-out synths. (JD) Metric - Gimme Sympathy (Single) After her 2007 piano-led endeavour with The Soft Skeleton, Emily Haines returns to what she does best with new album Fantasies lead single, a knot of charisma-drenched riot grrl indie. (LM) Joni Mitchell - For The Roses (Album) Her most under-appreciated album and the most beautifully package vinyl album this collector geek owns. (And not just for that photo, either ...) (GK) The Mummers - March of The Dawn (Album Track) A Jools Holland fave, with vocals falling somewhere between Bjork and Harriet Wheeler from the Sundays. (LT) Nirvana - D-7 (Live at Reading Festival 1992) (Live Bootleg). All the talk of an official DVD (finally!) made us dig out the bootleg and this furious run-through of The Wipers' classic tale of existential paranoia. (DB) St Vincent - Actor Out of Work (Single) Regina Spektor's a fan, and it's not hard to see why. Off-kilter femme pop with an eye on the blog hype machine? Yes please. (LM) Sasha - Xpander (Single) One of the best dance tracks ever made, this easily transcends genre to become simply a magnificent piece of sound construction. With 2009 being its tenth birthday and summer just round the corner, who needs any further reason to dig it out once more? (JD) Sonic Youth - Sacred Trickster (Album Track) First taste of The Eternal and it doesn't disappoint - blinding stuff from the NY legends. (CF) Ashley Tisdale - It's Alright, It's Okay (Single) Forthcoming chart smash from the High School Musical girl with attitude. So what if the chorus is reminiscent of Pink's So what, it's still a great track! (LT) The Veronicas- Untouched (Single) The Australian sisters finally get round to releasing their Hook Me Up album in the UK, featuring this great single. (LT) The Wire (TV Drama) Thank God the snooker's giving us a fortnight to get our breath back before series two kicks in. For those of us who simply never got around to it (despite a pathological obsession with Homicide : Life on the Street) it's a relief to discover the hype was justified. (GK) | |

| Some of the best music has a tendency to emerge from nowhere. For me , that was the case with Pontiak, who have just released their third album, Maker. Pontiak's rich yet sludgy sound glides warmly over you, with splintering cascades of post-rock guitar attacking your nervous system, making them an essential discovery for this year.....
