Their debut album, The Last Laugh, will be released on June the 15th thorugh Double Six records. Until then, watch the video for 'Worm's Head', which will be the first single and is due to be released on June the 1st.

Until then, watch the video and decide for yourselves.

The comeback to end all comebacks
Posted by Ian Sandwell on 31-03-2009 20:10 | 0 comment(s)
Suitable with Easter just around the corner that a band many considered to be finished, have been resurrected back to life albeit in a slightly changed form.

Wolfmother are now back to take us to another Dimension after singer Andrew Stockdale vowed last year to carry on the Wolfmother name. The new line up has just made their comeback song Back Round available as a free download on their official site.

For anyone worrying that they just wouldn't be the same, then fear not. Back Round contains the same combo of psychedelic hooks with crunching riffs and Stockdale's unique vocal style. It's three minutes of pure unadulterated rock brilliance and that's not even an understatement.

Arctic Monkeys for Reading/Leeds

We are on tea tonight (omelette) but if we find ourselves at a loose end, we'll endeavour to bring you the Reading and Leeds line-ups from around 7pm.

Arctic Monkeys have been confirmed as one of the headliners, but the other rumoured acts are about as exciting as you would expect. By my count you will be able to see Kings of Leon at 104 European festivals this year.

The Music Fix Monthly Playlist - March
Posted by Colin French on 26-03-2009 15:49 | 0 comment(s)
What's seducing TMF's eardrums this month? This blooming lot, that's what.

Alkaline Trio - Another Innocent Girl (Mercury)
Because some bands make sense when the world doesn't.

Animal Collective - Brothersport (Domino)
The highlight of their new album, reviewed in January, and a track fans of new single 'My Girls' just need to hear.

Bat For Lashes - Daniel (Parlophone)
Gorgeous, haunting, a bit Kate Bushy, bodes well for new album, Two Suns, out April 6th.

The Boy Least Likely To - The Boy Least Likely To Is A Machine (Too Young To Die)
Dizzy, disturbing, dystopian ditty.

BPA feat. Martha Wainwright - Spade (Southern Fried)
Ms Wainwright teams up with Fatboy, resulting in the sexiest thing she's done and a song to wish summer here NOW.

Deer Tracks - Yes You Are My Broken Shield (Despotz Records)
Lead track from their stunning debut album, ‘Aurora’.

The Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (RCA)
Bat For Lashes gorgeous cover version led to endless plays of the original.

Glass Candy - Covered In Bugs (IDIB)
I don't want realism. I want magic! Yes, yes, Magic!

Hundred Reasons - Sick Little Masquerade (PIAS)
Anger breeds great art.

Kap Bambino - Red Sign / Acid Eyes (Alt/Del)
Molotov cocktails of fantastic destruction.

Kill It Kid - Send Me An Angel Down (One Little Indian)
Brilliant forthcoming single that everyone must hear.

Little Boots - New In Town (Fred Falke Remix Vocal) (679)
"Take me out tonight, where there's music and there's people and they're young and alive."

Manic Street Preachers - Judge Yr'self (Sony)
“God have mercy on the man who doubts what he's sure of”....JFPL 05/09.

The Prodigy - Warrior's Dance (Cooking Vinyl)
Sirens, sped up sampled vocals, kicking beats, a return to rave; like the last 15 years never happened, which would be good if it meant no Coldplay.

Ride - Drive Blind (Creation)
Remember them? This is a f#*%$ing tune, right here. Simples.

Royksopp - This Must Be It (Wall of Sound)
Featuring the untamed vocals of Karin from The Knife, this is, on first few listens, the standout track on Junior, even if it occasionally threatens to turn into a disco version of Holding Out For A Hero.

The Smiths - Reel Around The Fountain (Rough Trade)
A work of lyrical genius which keeps creeping back onto our CD players.

Wake The President - Professor (Electric Honey)
Proof that Scotland + guitar is still a winning blend.

Warren Zevon - Keep Me In Your Heart (Virgin)
The world breaks everyone, and afterward many are strong at the broken places.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Soft Shock (Polydor)
Rubbish album, great track. You would think that after all these years we’d have learnt that every great band eventually sucks.

A Letter From America
Posted by Douglas Baptie on 18-03-2009 13:03 | 0 comment(s)
Come with TMF contributor Lorne Thomson as he embarks on this year's SXSW Festival:

I arrived in Texas last night for my fourth SXSW in a row.

South By South West is an industry based music conference / festival located in Austin. An average of 1,500 bands play over a period of four days so it's a great opportunity to watch the latest "up and coming" acts from around the world alongside more established bands playing slightly more intimate venues than they are used to.

This year I even got an extra day of entertainment as last night the British Music Embassy threw a bash for the final evening of the SXSW Interactive Festival, an event focusing on new media technology, headlined by The Proclaimers. The event was also open to Music badge holders and members of the public who had RSVP'd online.

The show was listed as starting at 9pm so I happily sat in my hotel room watching American Idol, leaving just before 9. Unfortunately the real kick off time was an hour earlier so the intimate Latitude 30 venue had reached capacity by the time I got there. Numerous tickets for the event had been handed out the day before to Interactive attendees so there were two lines, one for peeps with tickets, the other RSVP's and badge holders. You can guess which line I was in and which one was getting in first!

I waited outside for around thirty minutes, with the people in front of me either giving up and leaving or getting handed a spare ticket from someone walking past. Eventually the lovely girl who was handling the door conjured a ticket my way, even letting me join the front of the ticket line, getting me in the venue just in time for for Alice Russell's set. Latitude 30 wasn't as packed inside as I imagined, making it fairly easy to to join a few of the hundreds of snappers granted an official photo pass for the musical event down the front.

I didn't know a huge amount about English singer Alice Russell before seeing her. I had sneaked a listen to her most recent album "Pot of gold" a few days earlier, enjoying her Retro Soul sound but wasn't prepared to be blown away by her live performance as much as I was. In a way she reminded of a female Eli "Paperboy" Reed, delivering her set with gallons of passion. I'll try and see her live again at some point but probably not in Austin as there's too many other equally great acts to enjoy!

The crowd had thinned slightly by the time The Reid twins took the stage. The brothers were playing as a duo and ran through a fun set, pulling a few songs from debut album "This is the story" and follow up "Sunshine on Leith" , current album "Life with you" and throwing in a curious cover of "17" by Kings Of Leon. Although the crowd down the front were enjoying the performance, with shouts of encouragement throughout, there was a huge amount of background chatter for the set's duration.

It felt slightly strange watching an act that can pull in the punters back home play to a slighty apathetic audience at times but I had a fun time anyway, especially lovin' "Letter from America" and the band's encore "500 miles" , a song that was guaranteed to have even the chattering beer drinkers at the back singing along!

The British Music Embassy's show was a terrific way to start my SXSW this year but the whole thing kicks off in earnest today, with my band watching starting at midday and ending sometime in the early hours of Thursday morning!!

Check out The Music Fix next week for photo based reviews from each day of my SXSW experience.

Skeletor: The Musical aka the Michael Jackson O2 performances...
Posted by Colin Polonowski on 11-03-2009 11:08 | 2 comment(s)
So, tickets for the Michael Jackson concerts are now available, but what do people expect to see when they arrive at the O2 Arena having spent significant amounts of money?

The Michael Jackson of 20 (or even 10) years ago is no more. That Jackson was a music legend - the 'King of Pop' was a name that suited him and his outlandish performances. However, the years since haven't been kind. Health problems and court cases both had a huge impact on Jackson's career prospects. He's no longer the same man who can string together all of those great dance moves, sing quality songs and blow away any audience.

These ten dates may the last chance anyone will get to see Jackson perform live, and they'll be paying a hefty price for it, but will it actually be worth the effort and investment? I'm not sure I'd want my memories of one of the music scene's greatest talents to be tainted by a flawed live show that is more about rebuilding Michael's trouble financial status rather than putting on something that his fans will enjoy.

Can Michael Jackson live up to the expectations of his fans? Maybe he'll surprise me and put on an unforgettable show...
